So today is March 16th and exactly one year ago today Alex arrived from Australia to begin his life here with me :)
To celebrate this occasion we made lunch reservations at Vlora in Back Bay . It is restaurant week here in Boston, that is where la-dee-da hoity toity restaurants have 3-course price fix menu. We opted for a lunch outing since it was a bit easier on the wallet, and gave us an opportunity to wander the city for the day. We got so much food it was outrageous!
For the first course we each got something different (which allowed us to sample and share). We had an order of escargot in a red wine and garlic sauce and an order of risotto croquettes stuffed with mushrooms and feta cheese which had some tomato mash with it. Our main course we both got the salmon (since we don't eat red meat we couldn't share the steak...ha). It was cooked to perfection! It had an amazing spice rub which was a little crispy and very flavourful! It sat upon a bed of rice which was full of diced cauliflower, carrots and capers, as well as some beautifully cooked string beans! THEN!!! OMG! Dessert was amazing! We shared the tiramisu which wasn't boozey or overly sweet. Its easy to ruin tiramisu with the strength of the flavours...but they layered it in such a way that it just sat harmoniously atop one another. The other dessert was an almond frozen ice cream type thing...I don't know what it was...but it must have had a cup of whole almonds in it easy! It was drenched in warm caramel and had an intensely rich dark chocolate base. PHENOMENAL! We were at this place for almost 2 hours just eating and talking :) We are so happy to be here one year later...and we hope to have many more to come!
We figured that we would definitely take friends and family there when they visited...and we might just revisit on our own. YAY RESTAURANT WEEK!
(sorry no photos of the food...I didn't want to take pictures with our ginormous SLR...)
